Anybody who wants to have a meaningful life with a lot of opportunities needs to establish allies that are key stakeholders to them and their role inside and outside the company. Because ironically the ones that can refer to and get feedback from allies with complimentary talents, they make their own pitch more credible, more complete, and more likely to get the attention of the key people inside the organization.
That’s why I believe you build allies before you need them, and you do it around strong explicit sweet-spots of mutual interests. And the more unlikely the ally, and the more different their talent, then the more compelling and ‘cloutful’ I just made up that word you can be.
