Discussion with Kare Anderson about The power of specificity
Transcript
I believe in the power of specificity to be more credible, compelling and meaningful, but also innovation if I get specific it’s easier for you to say why it rings true for you or not, generalizations leads to more miscommunication or misunderstanding. So when I site a specific situation of technology, or something that’s not worked you say oh, I get that. I think if they did this instead of this it would have been better.
When you get specific you are more likely to be understood by each other. When you get specific you usually give examples. A specific example proves a general conclusion but not the reverse. So in innovation, you’re trying to see something that’s emerging that pops into your mind that hasn’t yet been created. So giving specific examples, or situations or technologies and say this rather than this, or this compared to this is better, or I see a good way to do it in this situation but not this, that concreteness enables other to break through and say your right, or perhaps not, how about this instead.
